Sawyer scores first sit down with Rep. Giffords

Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-Ariz.) and her husband, Mark Kelly, will sit down with “ABC World News” anchor Diane Sawyer for their first interview together since the congresswoman was shot in the head in January.

The interview is scheduled to air on ABC on November 14, during the crucial television sweeps ratings period.  

A press release from ABC says the broadcast will also “document the couple’s courtship, marriage, and extraordinary careers in public service.”

UPDATE (7:35 p.m.) – The Tucson Sentinel reports that Rep. Giffords may not appear in an on-camera interview during the ABC special. The newspaper writes that Giffords’ spokesman, Mark Kimble, said, “Congresswoman Giffords has not decided if she’s going to conduct an on-camera interview. “ Kimble added that Diane Sawyer will, “sit down and talk with Mark and Gabby” away from the cameras. Giffords’ decision on whether or not to appear will be based on her progress in rehabilitation, according to Kimble.
