Clyburn: Gov. Sanford again headed for the 'Appalachian Trail'

House Majority Whip Jim Clyburn (D-S.C.) has one guess about where his state's embattled governor, Mark Sanford (R), will go once his term is over: the Appalachian Trail.

Clyburn appeared on Comedy Central's "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart" Thursday night, where he told the host that he figures Sanford will "meander around" until his term ends next January. And then, Clyburn predicted, he will "go off on the Appalachian Trail."

In June of 2009, Sanford left on what he said was a hiking trip on the Appalachian Trail. It was later revealed that he went to Argentina to visit his mistress. Sanford's marriage to First Lady Jenny Sanford ended as a result of the extramarital affair.

Clyburn also told Stewart that his lunch at Thursday's White House health summit was "too healthy for me." Clyburn said he likes his fish fried, which is not how the health-conscious White House kitchen served up its salmon entree.

Stewart later said to him, "Sir, you are from South Carolina, and yet ... you don't seem insane," which drew big laughs from the audience and the lawmaker. Clyburn's response? "Well, the water is different in different parts of the state."
