Less than 48 hours before voters head to the polls in Texas, the two top contenders for the Republican gubernatorial nomination came together Sunday night for a church fundraiser headlined by two-term governor and former president George W. Bush.

Gov. Rick Perry and Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison were both in the audience as Bush delivered the keynote address at a benefit dinner for the Prestonwood Pregnancy Center, an outreach service for pregnant women run by the Dallas-based, Southern Baptist Prestonwood Bible Church. Sponsorship packages for the dinner started at $2,500, according to the event's website.

Perry had been expected to attend the dinner, but Hutchison was a late addition to the guest list. According to the Dallas Morning News, Hutchison's spokeswoman announced Sunday that the senator would attend the gala, after a prior scheduling conflict was resolved.

The evening was closed to media, but Perry gave Bush rave reviews. Perry, who is the favorite in the primary, tweeted Sunday night, "George W was excellent at the Prestonwood Pregnancy Ctr. dinner tonight. Remarks were spot on. A most engaging and dramatic night."

Bush has remained neutral in the battle for his former job.
