Granholm says she'll issue declaration recognizing Tigers ace for perfect game

Michigan Gov. Jennifer Granholm (D) said Wednesday night that she's issuing a proclamation making Detroit Tigers pitcher Armando Galarraga's effort historically accurate.

Granholm said on Twitter that she would issue a declaration to say that Galarraga had pitched a perfect game Wednesday night against the Cleveland Indians — which he did, except for a botched call by an umpire that erroneously awarded a base hit to an Indians batter.

Granholm tweeted:

As governor, I'm issuing a proclamation declaring Galarraga pitched a perfect game!

Galarraga was perfect through eight and two-thirds innings last night before umpire Jim Joyce blew a call at first base, awarding the Indians batter a hit. Video evidence showed the runner was out.

Joyce has since apologized, though baseball fans have seized on the historic error, which deprived Galarraga of what would have officially been the 21st perfect game in Major League history, the third this season and the second in a week.
