Franken to set the record straight ... on bowling

Sen. Al Franken (D-Minn.) will get a chance this weekend to disprove one of former Sen. Norm Coleman's (R-Minn.) toughest campaign jabs: That Franken is not a good bowler.

Franken is hosting a Brunch and Bowling Party fundraiser on Sunday morning in Minneapolis, Minn., at Bryant-Lake Bowl. Tickets start at $75.

Coleman, who lost his Senate seat to Franken last year after a protracted recount, attacked Franken's bowling skills in a campaign ad featuring three guys in a bowling alley. After some typical scripted political conversation, the three men decide to run for the Senate. "Why not?" one of them says. "We're just as qualified as Al Franken. And we're better bowlers."

But judging from the challenge he issued to Fox News Channel's Bill O'Reilly in 2004, Franken is pretty confident about his bowling skills.

Franken, who was hosting a radio show at the time, invited O'Reilly to take part in The Great American Bowl-Off, a national one-day event organized online. "There's been a lot of back and forth between the two of us and this is just a good way to clear the air," Franken said on the air. O'Reilly declined.
