North Korea denies Facebook, Twitter accounts

The accounts in question — discovered and announced last week throughout the media — are likely maintained by supporters of North Korea in China and Japan.

Alejandro Cao de Benos, a member of North Korea’s Committee for Cultural Relations with Foreign Countries, noted that access to the social media sites is banned within North Korean borders.

The trio of accounts made headlines last week after they were discovered online, prompting a tumult of media speculation about the North Korean regime's alleged propaganda push.

"We think that there is plenty of misinformation, speculation and sensationalism regarding the reality of North Korea," Cao de Benos told Forbes. "This is the hypocrisy of a society that calls itself 'democratic' but is in reality fearful of the ideological power and influence from our side."
