Sen. Menendez and Dana Milbank think alike

Sen. Robert Menendez (D-N.J.) sounded a lot like Washington Post columnist Dana Milbank on Thursday during a Senate Foreign Relations Committee hearing.

Addressing Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Menendez called President Barack Obama's promise to withdraw U.S. troops from Afghanistan by 2011 “as solid as quicksand.”

Quicksand?  If the unique simile sounds familiar, it may be because earlier that day, Milbank's Washington Sketch column (a must-read for Beltway insiders)  carried the headline: "A deadline written in quicksand, not stone."
