Hay Adams Author Series

E-mail

Ron Charles, fiction editor and weekly critic for The Washington Post, Geraldine Brooks and Tony Horwitz

The Hay Adams Hotel held its Author Series on Friday January 20, welcoming authors (and husband and wife) Geraldine Brooks and Tony Horwitz.

Brooks and Horwitz discussed their latest works, "Midnight Rising: John Brown and the Raid that Sparked the Civil War" and "Caleb's Crossing: A Novel."

The luncheon was held at Top of the Hay, the Hay Adams' rooftop, and featured authentic fare from Brooks and Horwitz's books, traditional food from the 17th century like salted cod cake and hasty pudding.

Table centerpieces were an ode to Martha's Vineyard, the setting of Geraldine's book.

The menu included authentic items from Brooks' book, such as this hasty pudding with spotted dick dessert.
