American for the Arts in conjunction with the Congressional Arts Caucus and 86 national co-sponsors celebrated Arts Advocacy Day 2010, where over 500 grassroots arts supporters came to the Cannon Caucus Room to show their support.

Actor Kyle MachLachlan was at the event Tuesday morning, as well as Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), Sen. Tom Udall (D-N.M.) and Reps. Louise Slaughter (D-N.Y.), Jim Moran (D-Va.), Betty McCollum (D-Minn.) and John Lewis (D-Ga.), John Yarmuth (D-Ky.).

Speaker Pelosi was awarded the 2010 Congressional Arts Leadership Award for her efforts in recognizing the value of the arts.

“People need to be able to reach their own creative aspirations without being joblocked,” Pelosi said when she received her award.

Robert Lynch, president and CEO of Americans for the Arts, also came out to show his support. Eight-year-old Gina Marie Incandela of VSA Arts closed the event with a performance.
