Pre-ball dinner for Trust patrons

The Trust for the National Mall held its annual Ball on the Mall Saturday night under a tent on the National Mall. Since its inception last year, the party has quickly become one of the Spring season's most anticipated affairs, and this year's ball more than lived up to the hype.

The Ball on the Mall raises funds to restore and preserve that National Mall, which has suffered in recent years due to budget cuts at the federal level. Under the leadership of real estate developer Chip Akrige, the Trust stepped in last year to help bridge the gap, and by all accounts, they've been extraordinarily successful.

This year's ball helped raise more than $750,000 for the Trust, in no small part due to its A-list board, chaired by George Chopivsky and Cameron Gilreath. Time Warner and HBO presented this year's ball, and guests danced to a kicking DJ  until well past midnight.

Spotted: Jazz great Ski Johnson, who closed down the party with some jamming moves on the dance floor with a lively young partner.
