The Greater Washington Fashion Chamber of Commerce First Annual State of Style Awards 2010

The Greater Washington Fashion Chamber of Commerce had its first annual awards lunch Thursday afternoon in the Hart Senate office building. Host Angie Goff of WUSA-9 hosted the affair, which awarded those making a difference in the fashion industry.

“We are here to celebrate the GWFCC but also the fact that we are getting national support behind us,” said Christine Brooks-Cropper, GWFCC president.

Awards were given out included the fashion chamber choice awards to Evelyn Brooks, the fashion advocacy of the year award to Save the Garment Center, Inc., the fashion scholarship award to Abegbemisola Ademisoye, the honorary fashion leadership award to D.C. councilmember Michael A. Brown, the leadership in emerging business award to Lara Miller and the elements of fashion legacy award to Fern Mallis. Mallis is the creator of New York Fashion Week.

“Millions know the names Calvin Klein, Ralph Lauren and Tommy Hilfiger,” Mallis said. “They are our ambassadors. Let’s keep the fashion industry on Washington’s agenda.”
