Photos from the road: McCain's trip to the Middle East

Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) has the most popular Twitter account in Congress, and he' s been using it this week to document his recess trip to the Middle East.

Accompanied by Sens. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) and Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.), McCain has visited three countries so far, and the results on Twitter are a hybrid, best described as foreign policy vacation photos.

The trio began its trip Friday in Baghdad, meeting with Vice President Joe Biden, General Ray Odierno, Ambassador Chris Hill and a group of Iraqi leaders. They also found time to visit a snack shop, producing a colorful photo op.

On Saturday night, the senators traveled to Afghanistan, where they met with Gen. Petraeus and the Afghan military leadership in Kabul. They also inspected a police checkpoint in Kandahar, held a shura with local Kandahari officials, and participated in a re-enlistment ceremony for troops on July Fourth.

On Tuesday the group arrived in Jerusalem, where they met with Palestinian Prime Minister Salam Fayyad and the Palestinian National Security Forces.

And in case there was any question about what's on the senators' agenda, McCain tweeted Tuesday morning that they'll also be meeting with Israeli leaders.
